Signs from deceased loved ones: when absence feels like presence
My experience of signs and a felt connection with my mother and husband after their deaths. A personal reflection on presence, meaning and everyday life.
Not loudly. Not all at once. Like someone cleaning a mirror so slowly you don’t notice the glass getting clearer — only that you can see more of yourself each time you look.
How do you speak about someone who has died when, at certain moments, you feel them close? Their absence is real. Yet an experience of presence can make the word “absence” feel incomplete.
I have had experiences that I interpret as signs, presence and communication with my mother and my husband after their deaths. Speaking with my deceased loved ones is part of my spiritual life. I share this as personal testimony, with room for the questions that remain.
What I mean by a sign
A sign has an intimate dimension for me: the meaning it takes on in relation to someone I love. I do not have a universal dictionary that assigns the same message to every image or experience. Something can move you deeply while leaving its explanation open.
You may have found this page by searching “signs from deceased loved ones,” “feeling the presence of a deceased loved one,” or “after death communication.” Beneath those words may be a more personal question: can I talk about this without someone deciding in advance what it means?
That is the conversation I want to make possible. I can describe my own interpretation without requiring you to share it.
My mother, my husband, and the connection I continue to explore
When I speak about my mother and my husband, I also speak about the relationships I carry within me. Loss and experiences I understand as connection belong to that story. I can honor their significance without presenting them as proof of what happens after death.
Words such as “I felt,” “I experienced,” and “I interpreted” matter here. They allow a testimony to remain intimate and honest while giving the reader room for their own beliefs.
A question other people share
A Pew Research Center survey published in 2023 found that 34% of U.S. adults reported feeling a deceased relative’s presence in the previous year. This records what people reported; it does not establish a supernatural cause or describe Latina women specifically.
There are other people trying to find language for experiences like these. You can enter that conversation without having to settle every question first.
Reflecting without forcing certainty
Write down what you noticed, what was happening at the time, and how you felt. Then distinguish those observations from the meaning you gave them. Leave space for what you do not know.
Does your interpretation bring comfort? Does it help you participate in your present life? Can you let a question remain open? Not receiving signs says nothing about the love you shared and does not mean you have failed.
Bringing meaning into the present
My work returns to the life we are living: memory, relationships, daily choices and the questions loss leaves behind. A private session offers space to explore the spiritual meaning of your experience. It does not promise signs or contact with a deceased person. We can look at what you experienced and what you want to understand now.
